Nach den großartigen (um nicht zu sagen großspurigen) Ankündigungen der Blackwood Distillers, eine Whisky Brennerei auf der Shetlandinsel Unst zu errichten, und nachdem sich seit über einem Jahr diesbezüglich nichts getan hat, sind diese Pläne nun entgültig gestorben. Man konnte sich anscheinend nicht mit den derzeitigen Besitzern der ehemaligen Militärbasis der Royal Air Force, die als Standort für die neue Destillerie vorgesehen war, einigen. Nun will man wieder auf die ursprünglichen Pläne für Catfirth auf der Hauptinsel zurückgreifen.
Unst whisky ambition on the rocks
Plans to set up a whisky business in Unst at the former RAF base at Saxa Vord have been abandoned.
Blackwood Distillers has announced it has been unable to agree terms with the company which took over the former RAF base.
The company will now update existing plans for the original distillery site at Catfirth on the Shetland mainland.
The RAF ended its near 50-year link with the community at Saxa Vord after closing its radar base last year.
