Single Malt Whisky From France

With the French wine crisis seeming to be more of a chronic condition than a temporary situation, perhaps the future is in other liquors. The Observer has an article on the Distillerie Guillon, a French distillery in the Champagne region. Thierry Guillon has noticed an increased demand for his single malt whisky. He expects to produce at least 60,000 bottles this year. Apparently the region is also a major barley producer. Guillon is a self-taught whisky maker who has only been to Scotland once. Given how territorial the Champagne region has been about the use of the word Champagne, I am curious to see what the Scottish make of this.
